This “mixtape” The Quan seems more like an album than anything else. This project turned out to be near perfect within its genre. It falls within the category of east coast smooth hip-hop. There are no guns shots or DJ’s creaming over each song. It is just raw hip-hop music. The lyrics from Black J were clearly well thought out and full of purpose/concepts. Black sounds like a cross between Naledge of Kidz in the Hall and Big L. His delivery is near perfect and enthusiastic throughout the entire tape. The production from Soulklap rivals that of high budget independent projects without the high price tag. Overall, this was one of my favorite underground projects of 2009. I hope that you all enjoy this as much as I did. It gets a well deserved 4.5/5.
