50 Cent - War Angel EP (Mixtape Review)

Do you remember when 50 Cent came out, or even before he really became popular? Hearing that coin drop…Many Men…Your Life’s on the Line. Well I do, and that is what holds me back from the majority of his music. The fact is that after he gained his mainstream success he changed and gave up trying to rap. His lyrics/music lost any type of substance they had before his success. Many fans, including me, felt betrayed. When he first came out every rap fan was feeling him. No one can deny that. But, because he basically gave up rapping with substance and just started bragging about money, many of his fans (any of those with intelligence) saw through his fake image and were disgusted. That is the situation we are in now. Only true 50 fans remain on his side now and he will probably never recover the others. I saw this mixtape the other day and was curious as to how 50 would come out on here. The cover looked pretty damn cool. It made me think he might get serious and make some real music worth listening to. This was not the case. I will admit he may have tried a little harder this, but it is still the same old lazy 50 Cent who let his music go immediately following Get Rich Or Die Trying. Listening to this, it reminded me of how talented he is (or could be). You can see that even when he isn’t trying he can still make hooks that are so fucking infectious. However, when you really think about what you are listening to you come back to reality and realize it’s nothing special. The cover made this seem like it was going to be some dark/evil/serious shit; don’t be fooled it’s just the same old lazy 50. Fans who stayed loyal to him after his success will love this because he seems to have tried slightly harder than average compared to the past 5 or 6 years. This will definitely not be summoning old 50 fans to come running home. The standouts were Cream 2009, Cocaine, and Talking in Codes. This mixtape gets a 3/5, slightly above failing.

1. I Line Niggas
2. Talking In Codes
3. OK, Alright
4. Redrum (Murder)
5. Cream 2009
6. I’ll Do Anything
7. London Girl
8. Better Come On Your A Game
9. Get The Message
10. Cocaine Ft. Robin Thicke
11. I Gotta Win

  1. who is this guy seriously trying to fool with this slick talk about how "he's going back to his roots because music that is pushed by a label doesn't have that street feel"....yeah ok!?!?! I loved FIFTY when it was "Guess Who's Back" when he was on some shit like "Hustler" and "Ghetto Qu'Ran" I was hoping he would get back on that tip....nope, still the same old "bust a clip" and "bulletproof" references from his corny ass
