Maino - If Tommorow Comes (Album Review)

Everyone who is familiar with the underground NY mixtape scene has heard of Miano. He has been one of the few new standouts in NY and has been putting in hard work for years. His first street single Rumors won me over immediately. He has a great voice for rap and a unique delivery. This is his first studio album, and it will definitely not be his last. Before rap, Maino had served 10 years in prison for drug related kidnapping. This album tells the story of how he “came up from nothing” and is now living his dream. Most listeners can identify with his struggle because he has been through the shit that most rappers pretend to be going through. It makes his music “realer” in that way. This is another great album drop of the summer. Maino’s debut album was basically everything I would have expected from him. This album is like the soundtrack to the movie that is his life. For the most part Maino’s flow on this is everything fans have come to love about him. The only track he sounded a bit off was on Remember My Name. This album has its share of singles featuring RnB heavyweights, but what separates Maino from the rest is that he keeps it real, even on his singles. I respect that. This album is going to put him in line for NY heavyweight status. The standouts on here were Gangster, Here Comes Trouble, Runaway Slave, Floating, Make a Movie, Back to Life, and Hi Hater (even though it’s old). I give this 4/5: another great album of summer 2009.
