Cage - Depart From Me (Album Review)

Cage is a rapper in his own world, away from the influence of mainstream hip-hop. And that world is full of abuse and drugs, which makes for perfect rap subject matter. If you are not into the possibility of emo/phsycadelic hip-hop, you will definitely not be feeling Cage’s “sophomore” solo release, Depart From Me. However, this is right up my alley. It is reminiscent of Slim Shady Lp only on a slightly darker level. Cage has a unique delivery which switches up almost every track on here. El-P and Blockhead’s production both work perfectly for cage’s style. I enjoyed every track on here. Cage pours his entire life on to wax with this album and nothing is held back; all of which make for an unforgettable album. The real standout tracks were Nothing Left to Say and Katie’s Song. The remaining songs were lyrically and conceptually equal, but the chaotic symphony of production found on the two previously mentioned songs push them to the top. 4.5/5.

I would be giving this album my first ever 5 in an album review, but Cage spends too much time with my one true enemy Shia Labeouf. I WON’T FORGET WHAT HE DID TO MY TRANSFORMERS.

  3. Do you mean what didn't Michael Bay and him do to ruin Transformers? Not too much. I was pretty excited when I heard a remake was coming out a few years ago. Then when I found out the that Even Stevens was starring in my favorite movie as kid I had to boycott that piece of garbage.

  4. Cage is friends with Shia LeBouf, the star of the transformer movies. Shia directed the music video from the single, and appears to have a film about Cage in the works.

Regardless, this is some of the best hip hop to come down the pipes. It's got a great feel, not seeped in the bullshit some artists spew thinking its "real." This is the most honest and dark album I've heard in a while.
