What has happened to Twista these days? He used to go really hard with Ruff Ryder’s on that gangster tongue-twister shit (video posted below). I guess those days are over for him. Joe Budden said it best when he pointed it out on his 15-minute track with “Twista is still tryin’ to recreate Slow Jamz.” I miss the pre-Kanye Twista and I am sure most of his male fans are missing him too. He still has a strong machine gun flow, but he won’t give up the single hunting. Roughly half of his new album is a single of some sort and aimed directly at the ladies. There is nothing wrong with making songs for the ladies, but Twista used to be a really hard MC. All I can hear when I listen to this album is: sell out. The standouts on here were Jump Off, Yo Body, Talk To Me, Misunderstood, and a Bigger Gun. This new album Category F5 (tornado reference) seemed more like a light breeze, 3/5.

ReplyDeletelot of features 3/5 seems right but i aint heard it
ReplyDeleteagree with 1st comment, twista still spits fire, true.. this is not his best and yes we miss our dose of adrenaline rush and unsolved misterys but lyrically he still a fkin genious, so fast yet so clear, my favs Hustla, Fire (shits FIRE!!!)
ReplyDeleteI don't get what you guys are complaining about. I said he still has that machine gun flow. You both said it wasn't his best, and I agree. It just pisses me off with all that bullshit single hunting. He could have made a much better album. He usually goes hard on his guest spots but he isn't putting that real shit on his albums. That's what I call a sell out.
ReplyDeleteim listening to it now but a 3 is average
ReplyDeleteyeah it's a 3
ReplyDeleteIm sorry. I got all his albums. This one is the best to me. Then the first Adrenaline Rush. That Adrenaline Rush 2007 was garbage. What seperates this one from the first to me is the lyrics and concepts.
ReplyDeleteI respect the 3 out of 5 but I gotta give it 4/5
it wasnt terrible, but i felt very disappointed. Everything aside, i would give it a 3/5 but I think considering what Twista can do, i'd give it a 2. I deleted it from my ipod...
ReplyDeleteThis was the best album thus far of 09 for me... Not his best album ever, but times have changed and a brother is just trying to evolve, and up date himself..
ReplyDeleteMan this new twista is hard bro bro youjust aint listen hard enough 1st track will let you know "imma Misunderstood Ni**A
ReplyDeleteI agree with this review but you honestly seem confused what you guys want. "There is nothing wrong with making songs for the ladies, but Twista used to be a really hard MC. All I can hear when I listen to this album is: sell out." Clearly there IS something wrong with making a song for the ladies, and it's completely ruined the genre. Underground artists obviously still bring it but you'll be hard pressed to find 1 real, cohesive rap album put out in the last decade or decade and a half that doesn't have some R&B sellout section "for the ladies". Now, with a blog named "lyricsfirst" I would your aim would be to cut through the commercial crap and bring us the best of the Underground. Good luck though most of these reviews suck.
