Alchemist - Chemical Warfare (Album Review)

Alchemist is currently one of the best producers known to hip hop. His name, Alchemist, is a perfect fit for his production style. He combines specifically chosen musical properties with rappers of unusual substance and the result is the transmutation of average hip hop base metals into timeless hip hop gold. Emcees have to really drop the ball in order to not sound outstanding after being backed by one of his beats. Alchemist fulfills the album’s promise by providing listeners with beats that simulate Chemical Warfare. Lose Your Life sounds like a futuristic battleground where the powerful forces of chemicals are let loose to wage war on unsuspecting rappers. The production was great on every single track on here. I could have done without some of Al’s rapping (although he did a nice job on Take A Look Back). He avoided the mistakes made on producer albums of the past by choosing his guests in a way that did not make the album feel scattered from the wide variety of artist features. However, I thought Eminiem did a terrible job on his guest spot. Em’s foreigner rap style may satisfy some of his die hard fans, but not me. Also, The KRS One collabo was not either of their best work. Overall, this was a good album to follow up to the critically acclaimed 1st Infantry, but not a classic in my book. My two favorites on this were That’ll Work and Lose Your Life. The other standouts on this were On Sight, Take A Look Back, Smile, and Therapy, 3.75/5.
