If any of you are familiar with Kurious, it is most likely because of his association with MF Doom. However, Kurious is somewhat of an old school legend and came out with a critically acclaimed album back in 1994: A Constipated Monkey. This was a classic. The hit single from the album was I’m Kurious (video posted below). He hasn’t released much since then other than MF Doom collabos. His style falls in the category of smooth hip-hop. Now, he is back in ’09 with his second album: II. This album was exactly what I expected it to be (which is not what I wanted it to be). I was a little surprised with the Max B collabo, but I guess it made sense because of the Dame Grease affiliation. This is another album that provides listeners with an almost completely positive message. As with most old school legend comebacks, his flow grew into a more mature (aka more boring flow). The beats on this album were very good and fit Kurious’s style very well. However, he just didn’t fully deliver throughout the entire album. Don’t get me wrong, this is a good album, probably the best this year from the old school, but it is just not what I want. There are few tracks on here that are really well done. The best on here is the MF DOOM collabo, Benetton. The other standouts on here are: Drinks In the Air, Mysterious (which is reminiscent of I’m Kurious), Back From Up Unda, and Is This The End. Like I said: this was a good album, it was just not what I really wanted, 3.5/5.
